To Die For- by Sandra Byrd~Book Review!~

To Die For: A Novel of Anne Boleyn (Ladies in Waiting, #1)

To Die For

by Sandra Byrd

My  Book Rating: 5 out 5 stars

“To Die For” was such¬†good book!! I have always been interested in the Tudor history but I’ve never really had a chance to read a book based on
their history. To be honest I didn’t know what the story would have in store for me. A good friend of mine had told me that the book was good and I’m so
glad to have read it!
Sandra Byrd is  very talented  with bringing history to life. The characterization in the story was very amazing. I really loved how she gave life to the
characters who lived so long ago.
I really admired the character Meg,a handmaiden and friend to the queen, Anne Boleyn. Even though she suffered so much abuse and neglect from her father
and taunting from her brother she really found that source of strength to press on with her life and she didn’t let those circumstances hold her down from
pursing better things in her life.
¬† I think both Meg and Will’s story very extraordinary in their own way. In Will’s story a person can see how reformers struggled to translate the Bible into the
common language so¬†that the people could understand God’s Word. On the other hand, Meg’s story was also an eye opener because since she was a handmaid
to the queen, the story really gave insight to what life in the times of King Henry would have been like.
¬† Anne Boleyn’s story was very good too. I liked how Sandra Byrd really gave her a voice. I knew that she was beheaded and things like that but for me to see
how she could stand her ground amid the accusations from King Henry was very brave.
All in all, I really loved the story it had adventure, good story plot, and very good historical settings. I really do thank Sandra Byrd for writing this wonderful and
historical packed story from the bottom of my heart! I can’t wait to read the rest of her series!
Also at the  end of the book, Sandra Byrd shows the reader what is fact or fiction in the story. I really like how she did that.
¬†¬† May I say this was the first time that I’ve actually held in my hand or won a copy of a book signed by the author. I was thrilled!
If you haven’t read it yet, I encourage you to read it! You won’t regret it!
Again, I give special thanks to Sandra Byrd for the giving away of  this wonderful book and thanks to my good friend Alice( for hosting
the Sandra Byrd book giveaway on her blog.

My Hope is Found by Joanne Bischof~ Book Review~

My Hope Is Found      My Book Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I have been so looking forward to reading, My Hope is Found ever since I had begun reading Joanne Bischof’s other books,Be Still my Soul and¬† Though My Heart is Torn.¬† I really enjoyed reading, My Hope is Found and I couldn’t stop reading it until I had reached the end of the story. A very amazing read!

¬†¬†¬†¬† Ever since reading,Be Still My Soul, I knew the story of Lonnie was going to be full of heartbreak and pain. My Hope is Found, really helped me to understand the story of Lonnie. There was a point in the book that I could¬† feel Lonnie’s heartbreak. It was so very touching that I could have cried with her. I’m usually not the one to read very sad stories but this book had a way of reeling me in until I had finished reading it.
I really loved how Joanne Bischof portrayed Toby the newest character to the book. In the book, Toby was a Scotsman and a minister. There were incidents in the book that I thought were very humorous between Gideon and Toby. They both were hilarious! Both Toby and Gideon were seemingly knights in shining armor fighting for the heart of Lonnie. It was very interesting to read  about which one of them Lonnie was going to choose.
¬†¬†¬†¬† What I really loved about My Hope is Found is that Gideon also had a huge role to play in the story. He knew he loved his wife and son but he didn’t really have what it would take to keep a family together. He had so many faults in his past that¬† would always haunt him and he soon began to realize that he couldn’t keep his family together without the help of God being in his life.¬† It was such a blessing to see how redemption really unfolded itself in Gideon’s life.¬† It¬† was very heart-warming.
¬†¬†¬† Jed and Elise were like the sweetest parents!¬† To me, Jed was like the father that Lonnie never had because her father was a mean and abusive man. I really liked Jed’s character in the book.¬† Jed was so hilarious in the book because he’s not the one to play around and he means just exactly what says. Even though he was serious about what he was saying it was funny how he expressed himself. There was no playing around when it came to Jed.
¬†¬†¬† I will admit that I was so frustrated at times because I wanted that happy ending for Lonnie and Gideon. With the story taking so many twists and turns, it seemed as if¬† everything that would’ve went wrong went wrong, and I was so entranced with the story until I’d read the last page . The journey for both Lonnie and Gideon was amazing. Joanne Bischof has woven a story to cherish and I encourage you to read if you haven’t already. It was such an inspiring and uplifting story.

I Love This Cookbook!~ Food:Vegetarian Home Cooking~by Mary McCartney

13153371  Book Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

It’s almost Thanksgiving! I can’t wait!

Oh! I love this cookbook!¬† This is the best vegetarian¬†cookbook that I’ve ever read! I will admit that I still hold strongly to my canivorous ways.¬† But now I have ideas¬†on how¬†to¬†make vegetables interesting.¬†In my mind, I thought that ¬†being a vegetarian was having a bland and boring palate. Sorry to you vegetarians out there! I really admire your courage to stick to all things healthy and such.

But in Mary McCartney’s cookbook, vegetarian food really opened up a different world to me! I was literally drooling over the pictures. As you all know I love cookbooks with as many pictures as possible. Her food photographs are amazing!¬† She also shared little stories in the cookbook about her life growing up. Really interesting. I really didn’t know Mary was Paul McCartney’s daughter until a librarian said it! That tells you how much I know! lol.¬† Mary’s picture is on the back cover of the cookbook and she looks just like her father!

She also had recipes for things that I haven’t even thought of.

Some of the Recipes in the book are:

Fruit and Granola

Saucy Mushrooms and Tomatoes on Toast

Pan-Fried Cheese,Tomato,and Onion Sandwich

Lip-Smacking Minestrone

Eggplant Wraps

Corn Fritters

Shepherd’s Pie

Plum and Pear Crumble

Yorkshire Puddings-something that I’ve never tried but I would like to try sometime.

I do want to try some of these recipes some day because they looked spectacular!   Any cookbook she makes in the future  I would like to read it because I really  loved this one.

Harvest of Gold- Tessa Afshar~Book Review~

Harvest of Gold (Harvest #2)      Book Rating:  4 out of 5 stars

Tessa Afshar has done it again! Harvest of Gold is the sequel to her previous book,Harvest of Rubies. I have been so eagerly waiting to read Harvest of¬† Gold ever since I’ve read the first book. I must say that the book was a very awesome and inspiring read. I really enjoyed it!

I really loved how Tessa Afshar developed the story of Darius and Sarah.¬† At first it seemed that their love story wouldn’t have a happy ending, but I’m so thankful that Miss Afshar brought about such a happy conclusion!

I really admire the heroine Sarah in Harvest of Gold. She is such an inspiration. She had such unmovable faith and a courage that couldn’t be shaken.
A perfect role model for me!

On the other hand, I also¬†found the background story of Darius’ life to¬† be very interesting. In his younger life he went through many things that molded who he was and it really affected him greatly in his marriage to Sarah.¬† It almost seemed as if he could only be an impenetrable wall. The background story of Darius¬†really helped me to understand him a whole lot better. His story of being raised in a palace at a very young age away from his loving parents only to be introduced to a harsh, cruel, unloving world. It really touched my heart because he suffered so much bullying from his peers and he had to hide many of his feelings in order to grow into the man his family was expecting him to be. It was really moving¬†how that¬†God through Nehemiah helped¬†Darius to overcome that struggle.

Nehemiah was also a key character in this book because in the story it shows the struggles and the victory of being able to restore the  former glory of Jerusalem. Nehemiah, once a lowly cup bearer for the King, became a leader for the people of Israel. Though they suffered many things, they still were able to overcome many obstacles presented to them in either the form of criticism, their enemies and with meager supplies of food. To actually see the victory they won through God and with the help of Nehemiah was amazing!

There are some parts in Harvest of Gold that were just absolutely hilarious! In the book,¬†there are two¬†new characters,Lysander and Roxanna. Lysander a man who has many hidden qualities and Roxanna a very strong-willed woman with a mind of her own. I really liked Roxanna’s character. She was a spy for the king.¬†There many times in the book that she¬†¬†would seem very¬†oblivious about the opinions the other characters would have about her. You¬†would not believe the disguises that she wore in order to hide that fact that she was indeed a spy!

Both Lysander and Roxanna were both hilarious in the many situations they faced in the book.¬† That is another quality that I love in Tessa Afshar’s books is that somehow she has a way of adding humor to her stories. Many times I can’t help myself from laughing out loud!

I really love the book cover for Harvest of Gold! All of her book covers they are so unique! The book cover of Harvest of Gold is no exception.

The only problems that I had with the book was that there were some parts in the story that I didn’t feel comfortable reading. Yes, Darius and Sarah were a married couple, but there were some things in there I totally didn’t expect to read in this story because in her past books she¬†has precautions about such things. Another thing is that even though the story was good,I though it ¬†wasn’t as good¬†as her first book in this series,Harvest of Rubies.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading Harvest of Gold. It was such an amazing and heart-touching story until the very end. I’m eagerly¬†anticipating any forth coming books by Tessa Afshar. She’s such an inspiring author.

* I received a free copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for my honest review. I received no compensation for this review, nor was I required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.*

~A Psalm in My Heart Fridays~ + Know Who You Are~

Well, today November 1! I’m loving the weather, it’s not too cold or too hot. Lovin’ it! God is good all the time!

Scriptures from Psalms,

Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.-Psalm 111:1

His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.-Psalm 111:3

He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.-Psalm 111:5

Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore.-Psalm 113:2

¬†From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord‘s name is to be praised.-Psalm 113:3

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;-Psalm 113:7

He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.-Psalm 113:9

I really thought that the video at the bottom of this post was so cute. Check it out if you haven’t watched it. Also, it really gave me a good picture of how a christian is supposed to be treating the devil. The enemy may look like a big scary wolf with a whole lot of power and he LOOKS as IF he could scare the life out of you! But if you as a son or daughter of God know where you stand, nothing, I mean NOTHING, can overcome you because God is on your side! We have always heard of the stories where the wolf is eating the sheep but whenever have you heard of a sheep scaring a wolf away? At least I haven’t heard of one. ūüôā¬† Well, the devil may¬† think that he has power over me but he’s a defeated enemy! So, boo devil! I’m taking back everything that God has promised me and you CAN’T have it! I know who I am! Everything that God gave to me is mine and you CAN’T have it!¬† The power comes with your own personal revelation of knowing who you really are. Know who you are so that you can be bold against the devil and take back all of the territory that belongs to you. Ask God to confirm your position so that when the time of testing comes you’ll be able to have faith and confidence in who God made you to be.

Now with the video, you don’t have to watch all of it. I don’t know if anybody out there has seen it, but I decided to write about it because I thought it was really neat.¬† The whole video is good but you can just watch the first part of it just to get the idea. Enjoy! ūüôā
