Hi everyone! I had just recently read the book by C.S Lewis, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe! I loved it! See my reviews for the book and the movie below!
“I can’t imagine a man really enjoying a book and reading it only once.” -C.S. Lewis
The Lion,the Witch,and the Wardrobe
by C.S. Lewis
Wow! What can I say that would adequately describe this book? It was so inspiring, captivating
funny, and it had very, very good elements for faith building! I have watched the movie version multiple times and I really enjoyed it!
At first I didn’t know how I would like the book. For me,I’m not really into books with talking animals and such.
I was really surprised about this one though! C.S.Lewis had a way of making talking animals believable. Well, at least for me. 🙂
I so enjoyed the faith allegory that he used in this story! He was truly a genius!
I wanted to read his work after I had learned that he was using the story of redemption and the christian life as a basis to this story. I also wanted to know the difference between C.S. Lewis and J.R.R.Tolkien. This is the first book I’ve read by C.S. Lewis and to me I could easily discern the Christianity aspects better with Lewis’ writing than in Tolkien’s writing in my opinion. (But then again I’ve only read one book by Tolkien.)
Aslan has to be my favorite character in the book! Aslan had so many characteristics of Christ. Like, how he’s symbolized as a Lion (Lion of the tribe of Judah)and how he laid down his life for a fallen Son of Adam. I really enjoyed it! Also the constant struggle and battles between good and evil with Aslan and the White Witch.
Characters,Peter,Susan,Edmund and Lucy were very easy to relate to. Especially the teasing that Lucy had to go through with Edmund. Oh, don’t I hear things like that about a hundred times a day! lol.
C.S. Lewis also had a very good sense of humor in the story which is something that I really enjoy when I read books. Any book that will make me laugh is certainly a keeper! If you haven’t read it I encourage you to read it! This is also a good book for children as well. It is a children’s book but also for the young at heart. 🙂 My rating-5 out of 5 stars.
Quotes from the book:
“Once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king or queen of Narnia.”
Do not cite the Deep Magic to me, Witch. I was there when it was written.”
“Aslan is a lion- the Lion, the great Lion.” “Ooh” said Susan. “I’d thought he was a man. Is he-quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion”…”Safe?” said Mr Beaver …”Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
“He’ll be coming and going. One day you’ll see him and another you won’t.”
I have watched the movie like hundreds of times and it has become one of the all time favorite for me. I don’t want to ruin the movie for those who haven’t watched it as of yet, so I’ll only try to hit the highlights.
In my opinion, the movie really compliments the book. There are some slight differences but I think that the movie and the book can be enjoyed equally. Lucy (Georgie Henley) was one of my favorite characters in the movie and I think she was a very good actress in the movie. I also love how the movie shows how Peter(William Moseley) and Edmund (Skandar Keynes) went through a little bit of sibling rivalry at times it was quite funny to see those two go at it. lol.
I can’t begin to tell how I loved Susan’s (Anna Popplewell) outfits in the movie! I would totally wear them! Both Lucy and Susan’s hairstyles were pretty awesome as well.
Aslan’s character(Liam Neelson), was very true to the book I think because in the book Aslan has this rich smooth voice and they did a really good job of making Aslan that someone everyone wants to love. Love his character in the movie!
Mr. Tummnus(James McAvoy) was true to his character as well. I also loved how the movie portrayed the
Witch(Tilda Swinton) because she was so believable. I love it when an actor becomes in tune with their character because it makes it more enjoyable to watch even if they are the bad guy. 🙂
Overall, I really love watching the movie and there are also some things in the book that gives more insight to what is happening in the movie. Like when Lucy is with Mr.Tumnus, and he’s blowing the flute and then Lucy makes this strange expression on her face, to be honest I didn’t know what was going on and when I read the book then it finally made sense. Because she was actually between crying and laughing in that scene.
Last but not least, I liked watching the comedy scenes throughout the movie they were hilarious! This movie is great for family nights and whatnot. Movie Rating:PG
My movie rating:5 out of 5 stars (A re-watchable movie)
Which one I like the best the book or the movie? : I love them both! 🙂
