The Curiosity Keeper~Sarah Ladd~

The Curiosity Keeper (Treasures of Surrey, #1)     ~Synopsis~

“It is not just a ruby, as you say. It is large as a quail’s egg, still untouched and unpolished. And it is rumored to either bless or curse whomever possesses it.”

Camille Iverness can take care of herself. She’s done so since the day her mother abandoned the family and left Camille to run their shabby curiosity shop on Blinkett Street. But when a violent betrayal leaves her injured with no place to hide, Camille has no choice but to accept help from the mysterious stranger who came to her aid.

Jonathan Gilchrist never wanted to inherit Kettering Hall. As a second son, he was content working as a village apothecary. But when his brother’s death made him heir just as his father’s foolish decisions put the estate at risk, only the sale of a priceless possession—a ruby called the Bevoy—can save the family from ruin. But the gem has disappeared. And all trails lead to Iverness Curiosity Shop—and the beautiful shop girl who may or may not be the answer to his questions.

Curious circumstance throws them together, and an intricate dance of need and suspicion leads the couple from the seedy backwaters of London to the elite neighborhoods of the wealthy to the lush, green Surrey countryside—all in the pursuit of a blood-red gem that collectors will sacrifice anything to possess.

Caught at the intersection of blessings and curses, greed and deceit, two determined souls must unite to protect what they hold dear. But when a passion that shines far brighter than any gem is ignited, each will have to decide how much they are willing to risk for their future, love, and happiness.

~My Review~

Besides reading historical western fiction novels, I LOVE,LOVE reading a very good regency novel.
Ever since reading this author’s first book, “The Heiress of Winterwood”, I’ve been following her writing ever since.
When I first started reading this novel, I was immediately drawn into its pages. This novel had a nice ring of regency throughout the story.

I can truly say that this novel is a very different twist from her former books which in itself is very refreshing. Just knowing that her novels will have a different twist to her writing every time that I read her novels makes me very excited.
It was good to read about the two main characters which was most engaging. The only downside is that there were some parts in the story that seemed to lag just a little bit to me.

The book cover is so awesome! It is also a big change because I noticed with her other book covers the heroine doesn’t show her face. There are times I do like seeing the heroine or hero’s face on the book cover even though sometimes the illustration is far off from what is described in the novel.

The Curiosity Keeper was a novel with a good combination of romance, mystery, and intrigue! I can’t wait to see what else this author has in store!

Through Waters Deep~Sarah Sundin~

Through Waters Deep (Waves of Freedom, #1)

It is 1941 and America teeters on the brink of war. Outgoing naval officer Ensign Jim Avery escorts British convoys across the North Atlantic in a brand-new destroyer, the USS Atwood. Back on shore, Boston Navy Yard secretary Mary Stirling does her work quietly and efficiently, happy to be out of the limelight. Yet, despite her reserved nature, she never could back down from a challenge. When evidence of sabotage on the Atwood is found, Jim and Mary must work together to uncover the culprit. A bewildering maze of suspects emerges, and Mary is dismayed to find that even someone close to her is under suspicion. With the increasing pressure, Jim and Mary find that many new challenges–and dangers–await them.

~My Review~

I have become a huge fan of Sarah Sundin’s writing and now with this novel, I can totally understand why I anticipate just about every novel she writes.
First off the book cover is spectacular!! I love this book cover so much that I was blown away. I do admit that the book cover is another reason that prompted me to read this novel.
I was very moved the romance in this novel between the two main characters. The author has a talented way of writing about romance in her novels. The romance in her books are so heartfelt and moving.
As far as the storyline goes in this novel, I just wish it were more memorable. Don’t get me wrong, I love reading the author’s ingenious way of writing about WWII in her novels. Most of her novels have a creative way of including romance, drama, and gripping history all into one novel. As far as this novel goes, it left me a little it wanting. It was a pretty good story to read but I’m not just looking for a good story to read anymore but also a novel that memorable and exciting to read.
Overall, this was a pretty good read and if you haven’t read any of Sarah Sundin’s novels, then I encourage you to read them! I’m eagerly looking forward to the next book in this series.

Can a man as kind and gentle as Garrett really be the Whistle-Stop Bandit?

~My Review~

I was very impressed with this novel. It has taken me a while to find a book where the characters and the story plot was entertaining to read about. A really good thing about this novel is that you don’t have to read them in order.
The heroine was a great character to read about. I always love to read novels that includes a mail order bride or a marriage of convenience stories especially in a western historical fiction setting. I thought it was really cool to read about a female detective in the early 1880’s. It was awesome!

The novel itself had a very nice mixture of history, romance, and comedy. The characters were lively and well thought out. The mystery was also great to read about. The drama in this novel really pulled my heart-strings which is always a good things. There’s also some historical facts about the Pinkertons included in the story. I was entranced by this novel and I love it when a novel can pull me into its depths from everyday life.

I’m planning on reading the first book and the next book in this series. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend this novel to anyone who’s looking for a spectacular afternoon read. 🙂

Happy Sunday everyone!!

I just want to encourage you all in the Lord and to keep walking this walk of faith with courage! God has a plan for your life and He is the great orchestrator. There is nothing that catches Him by surprise because the good thing to know is that He knows the beginning from the end.

I can see even with my own life I had all of these things that I had had dreamed up for my life but I’m realizing that God has the ultimate say so. The key thing to remember is that God KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT HE’S DOING!! We may not see His plan right then but I promise you down the road you’ll be saying,” Wow, God you are so awesome because everything worked out just fine”. 🙂

So I leave you on this note,”You’re too blessed to be stressed and you’re too anointed to be disappointed!
