My List of Best Read Books for 2016!

Hello Ladies and Gents! It’s another year and by God’s grace I’m looking forward to bigger and greater things this year! I’m kinda disappointed in my list of books I read in 2016. I think 2016 was  a very strange year for me in more ways than one. I usually finish my Goodreads challenge before the year is out but not last year unfortunately. Hopefully this year I can do way better than last year. So without further ado, here’s my list of the best books I read in 2016. I had planned to read 80 books in 2016 but only finished 18 books. It’s a far cry I know. lol. I’m very positive about this year though. Hopefully I’ll have my post up soon about the books I’m looking forward to reading in 2017. See y’all soon. Peace! 🙂

FOOD!!!! YUM!!

I’m always happy when I discover a new food or a new way that food is presented!

Best Food #1 – Everybody scream ice cream!! Wow! I didn’t know I would really LOVE ice cream as much as I did when I tasted the “QT(Quick Trip) Ice Cream”. It was so fresh, light, and sooo good. It was really a treat. It was vanilla flavored by the way. Me and chocolate has never got along and I would rather prefer vanilla or strawberry.

Best Food # 2– My Grandmother’s So Delicious Recipe. “Sausage Rigatoni”. It’s kinda hard to describe it but I know the main ingredients were Spaghetti Sauce, Rigatoni Pasta, and Sausage, and maybe cheese. I need to ask her about it but it was so GOOD that I daydreamed about it for days on end. It think it maybe was letting the sausage marinate along with the pasta sauce that gave it that extra kick. It was SO good! YUM!!

Best Food# 3– I could have never imagined that Chocolate Chips could get along well inside a Pecan Pie! I had never heard of a “Chocolate Pecan Pie” It was a splendidly well together match. I just savored it again and again. Yum! With each bite I knew I was slowly but surely falling in love! I wouldn’t mind having some right now! 😉

A Tribute ~Abraham Lincoln~

  Abraham Lincoln

Born on February 12,1809, Hodgenville,Kentucky,USA.

I truly admire Abraham Lincoln.He has to be my favorite president of all time! Of course there were some things I didn’t agree with him politically wise but I won’t go into that.

    I admire his character and his persistence of never giving up even when everything seemed against so him. His integrity and his words proved his character. He went through so much in his life as a young boy growing up with an unloving father and only receiving real love  from his mother and later, his stepmother.

 He knew that even though growing up poor he wanted more from life, and that’s another thing that I liked about him. Of course I know he was only a human being, and made many mistakes as we all do, but something about his character really stood out to me. Later in life, there were many things that he had to go through but he  would eventually, triumph.

~~10 Very interesting facts about Abraham Lincoln~~

1. Lincoln has no heirs

Although Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd Lincoln produced four sons, there are no living descendants today. Three of their sons died before the age of twenty. Edward died at the age of four, Willie at twelve and Tad at the age of eighteen. Robert was the only child to live to adulthood and his last known descendant died in 1985.

2. Lincoln’s beard was historic

Lincoln was the first president to sport a beard while serving in office.

3. Lincoln was an inventor

Lincoln was the first and only president to ever obtain a patent. He was mechanically inclined and like to take things apart just to see how they worked. In 1849, he got a patent for a device to lift ships over shoals by way of a buoying mechanism. His invention, US Patent No. 6,469 never made it into practical use.

4.Lincoln had a premonition he would be killed

Not long before he was assassinated, Lincoln spoke of a dream where he heard someone weeping in the White House. When he found the room it was coming from, he asked who had died. He was told it was the president. He approached the coffin to peer in and saw his own face.

5. Lincoln created the Secret Service hours before his assassination.
On April 14, 1865, Lincoln signed legislation creating the U.S. Secret Service. That evening, he was shot at Ford’s Theatre. Even if the Secret Service had been established earlier, it wouldn’t have saved Lincoln: The original mission of the law enforcement agency was to combat widespread currency counterfeiting. It was not until 1901, after the killing of two other presidents, that the Secret Service was formally assigned to protect the commander-in-chief.

6. Lincoln’s son was saved by his assassin’s brother

Shortly before his father was assassinated, Robert Lincoln was at at train station where he fell between the platform and the train as the train began to move. He was pulled to safety by a prominent actor of the time named Edwin Booth. Edwin was the brother of John Wilkes Booth, who would later assassinate President Lincoln

 7. Poisoned milk killed Lincoln’s mother.
When Abraham was 9 years old in 1818, his mother, Nancy, died of a mysterious “milk sickness” that swept across southern Indiana. It was later learned that the strange disease was due to drinking tainted milk from a cow that had ingested poisonous white snakeroot.

8. He was the tallest U.S president at 6’4″.

9.  Lincoln lost five separate elections before being elected president.

10. Lincoln was fond of pets, and owned horses, cats, dogs and a turkey.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I ponder on the life of Abraham Lincoln, I’m reminded of a bit of Henry Longfellow’s poem,
  Lives of great men all remind us
        We can make our lives sublime,
    And, departing, leave behind us
        Footprints on the sands of time…….
