Poetry Corner~ Robert Frost~

I really do love poetry by Robert Frost! I try to at least read some of his poems whenever I get a chance.I love nature, and many of his poems portray a lot of things involving nature. I’ve included some of his poems that I  enjoy at the bottom of this post. Enjoy! 🙂

The Road Not Taken

by Robert Frost-

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-

took the one less traveled by

And that has made all the difference.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

by Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.

His house is in the village though;

He will not see me stopping here

To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer

To stop without a farmhouse near

Between the woods and frozen lake

The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake

To ask if there is some mistake.

The only other sound’s the sweep

Of the easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.

Fire and Ice

by Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

~A Psalm in My Heart Fridays + An Awesome Story!!~

I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.-Psalms 108:3

For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.-Psalms 108:4

Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth; ~Psalms 108:5

Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.-Psalms 108:12

Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.-Psalm 108:13 – A believer in God’s word has the power to make the demons tremble!

I hope those verses were a blessing to you! Now, I want to share this story that I heard from a missionary, and it was such a blessing to me, and I pray it is the same to you all. 🙂

The Story of the King with Nine Fingers

There were two guys who once were raised together. They were very close friends during their childhood, and one of them became a king. Of course since the king and his friend grew up together they were always together. Now, the friend was a man who always spoke positive in any situation whether it was good or bad, he would always say,”It was a good thing”. One day, the king and his friend went hunting and the king had his friend to load powder into his gun. Unfortunately, the gun exploded and with the explosion, the king lost his thumb. And when the friend seen what had happened he automatically said,”Oh,it was a good thing.” Of course the king was not thinking on those same terms. On the journey back home, they didn’t converse much. When they arrived at the palace, the king placed his friend in prison, and he said to his friend, “Now, you will see if this is a good thing!”

The king left him in there for about a year. So, after while, the king went back to his hunting but this time he went alone. While hunting the king was caught by cannibals and they tied him up and took him to their village. They then put him on the stake and they were all ready to prepare the recipe. Then one of the guys went up to the king and he realized that the king only had nine fingers. He then said to the others “Come and see this weird man he only has nine fingers.” And when they seen this they said,”Oh, we had better let him go he must be a special man from the gods, and their wrath would be against us.” So, they let the king go. Now, after experiencing such a  near death experience, he realized that having nine fingers was indeed a good thing. The king rushed and went to the prison to set his friend free. The king related the story to his friend. “I have done a very bad thing against you!”,said the king.  But the friend answered and said, “No, it was a good thing.”  The king said, how can you say that it was a good thing?  I left you in prison suffering and away from your family. The king said again,” I don’t understand you, how can you say it was a good thing?” The friend then said, “It’s very simple my king because if I was with you,I would’ve been eaten up!”

I really enjoyed the story when  I first heard it because it really opened my eyes about the things that I go through in life. We as humans  don’t see the whole plan of God. There is always a purpose for whatever we are going through in this life whether it is positive or negative. Many times we don’t see the full picture and we cry, “Lord why me?”  Why not us? I know it’s really hard sometimes but I always say, “If we never have rainy days, how could we truly appreciate the days when the sun is shining and we can clearly see God’s blessings?    Also, sometimes our disappointments could be a testimony to help somebody else. After all we are here to help one another, right? Your faith that has brought you through your trial could very well lift somebody else’s level of faith.

Now, I’ll leave you with these parting words:

“Fret not for what tomorrow may hold; but trust in the One who holds tomorrow.”

Some Author Love! ~ Janette Oke + New Drama Series!!

One of my many favorite Christian fiction authors is, Janette Oke!

She was really the first Christian Fiction author that I had discovered while growing up.I I love her stories! I have re-read most of her books over and over again. I have read mostly all of her books and they have been an encouragement to me. Her stories were mostly clean reads which is another reason why I re-read them so much. Now to have a new drama based on her book in the Canadian West Series would be phenomenal! I have watched all of the Love Come Softly  drama series and I really enjoyed them though they weren’t truly following the books, they were good in their own way.  I have included both of the trailers that I could find at the bottom of this post about the new drama, When Calls the Heart.

I cannot wait to watch the series inspired by Janette Oke’s book, “When Calls the Heart”. It aired on Hallmark last Saturday which would have been October 19, to those who didn’t know.

When Calls the Heart, is included in the Canadian West series. I totally enjoyed the book, and I can’t wait to see the hero and the heroine come alive!

I’ve read all the series in that one. The ones I really liked were:

When Comes the Spring (Canadian West #2)  When Hope Springs New (Canadian West #4) When Breaks the Dawn (Canadian West #3) Beyond the Gathering Storm (Canadian West #5)

That’s almost all of them. lol. 🙂  My sister kept on begging me to read it. I wasn’t so sure even though I was a really big fan of Janette Oke. But  I’m so glad that I did read them. They were good!

To have a movie about Elizabeth and Wynn’s story would be would be super awesome! I think  that more christian fiction books should be made into movies!

Other books by Janette Oke that I really enjoyed are:

A Bride for Donnigan, Repackaged Edition  A Gown of Spanish Lace, Repackaged Edition Drums of Change, Repackaged Edition Roses for Mama, Repackaged Edition

The Meeting Place The Centurion's Wife The Sacred Shore The Distant Beacon

Love Comes Softly, Revised Edition

Also a new book by Janette Oke’s daughter, Laurel Oke Logan,  is to be released in Feb.2014! Can’t wait!

Here are the trailers about the drama,”When Calls the Heart”

Some quotes by Janette Oke:

“Sometimes love isn’t fireworks, sometimes love just comes softly.”-Janette Oke, Love Comes Softly

“Having someone who understands is a great blessing for ourselves. Being someone who understands is a great blessing to others.”-Janette Oke

“When you read you can have every adventure. In the pages of a book you can be anyone you ever dreamed of being… They can never tell you you’re too young to slay the dragon — because it all happens right here, where it’s safe.”-Love Comes Softly

~ A Psalm in My Heart Fridays!!~

Life has been busy, busy, busy!!   Here are some scriptures from  Psalms  105,106, and 107. I also included another  scripture that really spoke to me this week!

Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.~Psalm 105:2

And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.- Psalm 106:10-11- I really liked this scripture because it reminds me that even in my life and whatever situation that I face, or even your life,  that God doesn’t do a halfway job! When He does something, it’s done it well!

For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.-Psalm 107:9

Another scripture that really, really, help me this week was the scripture below. It’s not Psalms but it’s all good!

Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.-2 Chronicles 15:7

    Until next time!  🙂

I’m reading… Lord of the Rings-Fellowship of the Ring!!

Well, I’ve finally done it! I have started reading Lord of the Rings!

15239

I didn’t really read, “The Hobbit” but I do  remember skimming through it when I was little. My attention span didn’t last long with the book I’m afraid. 😦

I never was a fan of the book because I wasn’t into the hobbits, dragons,or wizards for that matter. I did always hear though that there were some spiritual aspects to,”The Lord of the Rings” and I’m curious to learn the spiritual side of it.

My library isn’t very updated with the new releases and so forth. So I’m glad that I found this book!  I beginning to think that  J.R.R Tolkien’s  spiritual aspects may be more hidden inside the storyline than by the series authored by C.S. Lewis ,”The Lion,The Witch, and The Wardrobe”. But anyways, I’m really enjoying LOTR!! So far I’m reading the first book,”The Fellowship of the Ring”.  I do hope I finish the book because I’m not into reading 400 pages or more books. Too long for me! But I really do enjoy the storyline. 🙂

~A Psalm in my Heart: Fridays! ~

I usually read Psalms every Friday. Many times I look forward to Friday just to read Psalms! I believe God really inspired David when he wrote the book of Psalms.  Thank God for Psalms! They minister to my heart so perfectly. Maybe every Friday I can share with you all the scriptures in Psalms that really inspired me or just speaks to me as a daughter of God.

So here are a few scriptures from what I read today:

Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.-Psalm 104:1

Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: ~Psalm 103:2~
(I tell ya I have never read that before and as many times I had read Psalms!)

My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord.-Psalm 103:34-

The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.~Psalm 104:21

O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
~Psalm 104:24~

I just think that these verses are amazing!  I thought I would share them with y’all. 🙂

When Love Calls-Lorna Seilstad

When Love Calls (The Gregory Sisters, #1)          My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.

Book Series: The Gregory Sisters-Book 1

The Heroine– Hannah Gregory  &  The Hero- Lincoln Cole

Period of the book-1908

I really, really, enjoyed this book!!

A little bit about the book-

This book starts out with the life of Hannah Gregory and her two sisters.  Hannah is one of those people who is not a good follower when it comes to rules. She’s headstrong and she believes in speaking her mind. This book also gives us an insight of what the lives of the “Hello Girls” were like.

“When Love Calls”,  also gives a  glimpse into the life of  Lincoln, the lawyer, the hero!  Through the many situations that happen in the book, both Hannah and Lincoln soon realize God’s plan for their lives.

What I thought about the Book-

There’s adventure on every page! The story in itself was very well put together.I think this is the best book written by Lorna Seilstad ever!  The writing was superb! The characterization was just perfect.  I feel that she really put her whole heart into this book.

Hannah’s character is so lovable because she’s trying to be almost like a mother to her two  sisters.  Another thing I liked about the book was that, all of the sisters tried to work together just to make things work smoothly in the household as a whole. Yes, they had their little ups and downs but they still loved each other till the end.  Hannah also meets the hero of the book, Lincoln Cole. I thought that was funny in itself because Lincoln Cole kinda mirrored Abraham Lincoln in his character. But anyway, Lincoln Cole is the lawyer in this story and He’s kindhearted, and the best man character in a book I’ve read this year so far! I thought he was just sweet!

I really, really do love how Lorna Seilstad incorporated the tidbit of history of the “Hello Girls”. It wasn’t boring or going into unnecessary details.  Another thing that I liked about this book was the cover! I really do love pretty book covers! The cover for this book just looks phenomenal! All in all, I loved this book and I’m looking forward to the next book by Lorna Seilstad in the this most interesting series of: “The Gregory Sisters”.

Historical Fiction, My Favorite Authors

Some Author Love! ~Lucy Maud Montgomery~

Today, one of my favorite classical authors is….drumroll…. Lucy M. Montgomery!!

L.M. Montgomery

I really love her book ,”Anne of Green Gables”. One of my favorite books of all time! If you haven’t read it, then I encourage you to do so.

I have also read the rest of the series of Anne of Green Gables. Much of Anne of Green Gables as a book or a movie has really molded some of  my character that I express today. Like for one example, I always believe that a person should have a bosom friend. Friends to me are really a special gift. I believe friends should stick together through the thick and thin.

8128

I just adore the movie also even though I haven’t watched it in a while, I can quote different parts in the film because I’ve watched it so many times!

Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie played the perfect Anne and Gilbert. I haven’t seen anyone do better. Seriously!

Also can’t forget Anne and Diane. BFF!

I now  leave you with  the words of Lucy Maud Montgomery,

“Isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?”-L.M Montgomery

“True friends are always together in spirit. (Anne Shirley)”- L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

“It’s not what the world holds for you. It’s what you bring to it.”-L.M. Montgomery,Anne of Green Gables

“You may tire of reality but never tire of dreams.”-L.M. Montgomery, The Road to Yesterday

Some more quotes by Lucy Maud Montgomery –

“It’s delightful when your imaginations come true, isn’t it?”

“Truth exists, only lies have to be invented.”

“I feel as if I had opened a book and found roses of yesterday sweet and fragrant, between its leaves”-Anne of the Island

“But if you call me Anne, please call me Anne with ‘e’- Anne of Green Gables

“…I’m so thankful for friendship. It beautifies life so much.”- Anne of Avonlea

“But really Marilla, one cannot stay sad very long in such an interesting world, can one?”-Anne of Green Gables

“We ought always to try to influence others for good.”-Anne of Green Gables

Well, that just about wraps it up! I will try to do more of these kind of posts in the future! 😉

A Word for Thought

Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog!! I’m very new at this sort of thing, but I want to get better at it. I used to write a whole lot when I was a little girl, and now I want to awaken that forgotten dream. It didn’t matter if it was like stories, poetry,a song, etc. I used to write a lot! So you may say, “What happened?”. Well, life just happened and writing for me was put on hold so this is my opportunity to start anew!  I believe that if God has given a person a certain gift, then they should learn how to mold and shape that gift until it shines like gold.

Just like the story in the Bible where God gives these men certain talents and as the parable goes, some of them learn ways how to progress their God given talents on their different levels.  There was also this one man who hid his talent and God was not pleased with him that much I can tell you. I want everything about me to be pleasing unto the Lord. So, with that being said, this blog is also a way to perfect my hidden gift. I know it’s in there somewhere even if it’s waaaay deep down there. 🙂  You’ll also have  to forgive me if my writing is kinda off. I’m not a professional book reviewer or writer in anyway but I’m striving towards that goal! Like I said I will try to write about many different things that are on my heart. If you have any suggestions or anything just leave a comment below! I love learning tips from you pro bloggers out there! Enjoy! ~Virgina~

Jaci Velasquez ~ On My Knees

“On My Knees”

There are days when I feel the best of me is ready to begin
Then they’re days when I feel I’m letting go and soaring on the wind
Cause I’ve learned in laughter or in pain how to survive

I get on my knees, I get on my knees
There I am before the love that changes me
See I don’t know how but there’s power when I’m on my knees

I can be in a crowd or by myself or almost anywhere
When I feel there’s a need to talk with God, He is Emmanuel
When I close my eyes, no darkness there
There’s only light

I get on my knees, I get on my knees
There I am before the love that changes me
See I don’t know how but there’s power in the blue skies, in the midnight
When I’m on my knees

I get on my knees, I get on my knees
There I am before the love that changes me
See I don’t know how but there’s power when I’m on my
Oh, When I’m on my
When I’m on my knees.

*This is one of those songs where I can draw strength from. I really love this song. Prayer changes things. God really blessed this lady with a gift. Enjoy!*

The Great Shepherd

The 23rd PSALM – A New Approach
The Lord is my Shepherd — THAT’S RELATIONSHIP!
I shall not be in want — THAT’S SUPPLY!

He makes me lie down in green pastures, — THAT’S REST!

He leads me beside quiet waters, — THAT’S REFRESHMENT!

He restores my soul — THAT’S HEALING!

He guides me in paths of righteousness — THAT’S GUIDANCE!

For His name sake. — THAT’S PURPOSE!

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, — THAT’S TESTING!

I will fear no evil, — THAT’S PROTECTION!

For you are with me; — THAT’S FAITHFULNESS!

Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. — THAT’S DISCIPLINE!

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies .— THAT’S HOPE!

You anoint my head with oil; — THAT’S CONSECRATION!

My cup overflows — THAT’S ABUNDANCE!

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, — THAT’S BLESSING!

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord — THAT’S SECURITY!

Forever — THAT’S ETERNITY!!!!

~I love the 23 Psalm! This chapter in the Bible along with other great encouraging scriptures, reminds me of the fact that there’s really no need to worry when the Great Shepherd Himself has everything in my life under His control. Yes, I know sometimes there are situations in our lives that arise and we feel that we cannot hold on another day. But let me encourage you to keep holding on to God’s unchanging hand because He has confidence in you! If He brought you to it, He’ll bring you through it!-
